Cooking, cleaning, running errands, homeschooling. Somehow, even with a great plan, I did not manage to find the time for myself and the resources to finally go back to my usual happy shape gradually. I was barely managing to do 5.000 steps outside walking. And whenever I started doing some exercises at home, my child immediately jumped on me, making it almost impossible to finish a set. Well, my frustration grew and grew and well, stress came up, cortisol levels went high and one thing is for sure, fat build up.

That’s how it felt. So, I needed a better plan.

Burning fat gradually, wouldn’t work for me. So, I needed to burn fat quickly. Well, it was not easy, though. But finally, it happened. One thing is for sure, it required a combination of diet, exercise, and lifestyle changes.

2. Optimize Your Diet

Stop eating Leftovers to Reduce your Carbohydrate Intake

Being a mom, means cooking for your family and for your kids. And cooking means eating leftovers from your child’s meals all the time. However, kids need more carbohydrates than we do, because they simply use more energy.

I cook almost everything healthy with complex carbohydrates like vegetables, whole grains and legumes. No refined carbohydrates such as white bread, pasta, and sugary foods for us.

However, eating leftovers from my kid’s meals simply means high carbohydrate intake.

So, I cut whole grains and ate only vegetables and small portions of legumes.

Increase Protein Intake

Protein helps in muscle building and increases satiety, which can prevent overeating.

Include sources such as lean meats, fish, eggs, beans, and yogurt.

Consume more Omega 3 Fats

Consume healthy Omega-3 fats. Follow an easy Anti-Inflammatory Diet with simple recipes, that will help you increase your daily natural Omega-3 fat intake.

Avoid any fats other than omega 3 and limit saturated fats.

Eat Fiber-Rich Foods

Fiber can help you feel full longer and improve digestion. Include mostly green vegetables and legumes in your diet. One of my favourite recipes is a Ground Beef Beans Skillet. Small portion of it with a green salad is a perfect example of a good meal, when I started losing that hard to lose fat.

Avoid Processed Foods

Processed foods are not real food, they are simply poison for our bodies and minds. Minimize consumption of processed foods by all means.

Opt for whole, unprocessed foods.

3. Lifestyle Changes

Get Enough Sleep

Sufficient sleep is essential for maintaining healthy physical, mental, and emotional functioning. Aim for 7–9 h of sleep a night. That’s scientifically considered appropriate to support good health in adults of 18–60 years of age. The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) showed significantly higher rates of obesity in adults who reported an average of less than 7 h a night of sleep.

Poor sleep can not only disrupt hormones that regulate hunger and appetite, it can basically ruin you. So, get enough of it.

Manage Stress

Studies show, that chronic stress can lead to weight gain and hinder fat loss. Therefore, take it easy. Take a deep breath. Practice stress-relief techniques such as yoga, meditation, or deep breathing exercises or just stare out with a smile on your face.

4. Intermittent Fasting

Consider intermittent fasting, where you cycle between periods of eating and fasting.

Popular methods include the 16/8 method (fasting for 16 hours and eating within an 8-hour window) and the 5:2 method (eating normally for 5 days and restricting calories for 2 days).

5. Walk!

Without physical activity, there is no fat loss. No pain, no gain. Also, we all felt it. Exercising makes me, makes us happy. So, make some time for happiness every day, at least an hour.

Walk!

I’m not into exercising though. And if you feel like me – just start walking and do at least 12.000 steps a day.

Take the stairs, walk during breaks, and just move.

Aim for at least 12,000 steps per day.

Cardiovascular Exercise

If you are more into exercising, do cardio exercises such as running, cycling, or swimming. If not possible, then just a brisk walk would do it too.

Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous activity per week.

Strength Training

Build muscle to increase your resting metabolic rate. Include weight lifting, bodyweight exercises, or resistance band workouts at least two to three times per week.

High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)

HIIT involves short bursts of intense exercise followed by rest or low-intensity exercise. HIIT can be more effective for fat loss compared to steady-state cardio.

For me, it took about 3-4 months of following these simple 5 steps to feel better and to reduce my belly fat effectively. Walking was actually one of the best things I did. At the end the combination of all these 5 things helped me to lose it and to keep it that way.
