Peppermint – Uses, Health Benefits and Detox Water Recipe

Peppermint (Mentha x piperita) is an aromatic, powerful, and versatile herb, that we, humans have known and appreciated since antiquity. From improving digestion and respiratory health to providing pain relief and enhancing mental clarity, peppermint is a valuable addition to your diet. Scientific studies show that its regular use is effective in treating conditions like IBS, headaches, and microbial infections.

Although many herbs are called mint, peppermint is indeed the real mint, a cross between Menta aquatica (watermint) and Mentha Spicata (spearmint).

In ancient mythology, Minthe was a pretty Nymph. Pluto, the God of the Underworld fell in love with her. However, their love lasted up until his wife Persephone, found out and got very angry. She went to search Minthe, found her, and started to tramp on her. Pluto wanted to rescue her, but he only could transform her into a beautiful fragrant shrub, the mint. Since then, the plant has been devoted to Pluto.
