This quick and easy homemade basic mashed potatoes recipe is something you can prepare as a side dish in 15-20 minutes and your kids will love for sure! Simply buttery these homemade mashed potatoes are a must-try!

Potatoes have indeed a high glycemic index, however they are gluten-free, rich in antioxidants, packed with good nutrients such as vitamin B6, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, niacin. This makes them a great food for energetic kids.
So, every now and then, great for not so energetic adults too.
Ingredients
This basic mashed potatoes recipe is perfect for minimalists chefs. All you need is
- 2 big potatoes
- 1 onion
- 2-3oz (50-75g) of butter
- salt to taste (about 1/2 tsp in our case, less is better, you can always add some more later)
- optional 1/2 carrot
- water

Instructions our quick and easy basic mashed potatoes
Cut the potatoes and the onion in big chunks and put them in a pan. If you want to add a carrot too, then shred it and add it to the potatoes and the onion.
Add the salt and enough cold water to cover them and boil them at medium high until ready and mashy.
Pour out the most of the water when ready. Leave just a tiny bit as much as 2 oz (about 50g).
Add the butter.
Use a potato masher or a blender and mash everything well. Add some salt if needed.
